June BatRep: Anthem Games 6/2/12

Well, I loaded up the Space Wolves and headed to Anthem Games with Chris for our first tournament in June. We had a great lunch at Burger 21 that is by far the best burger I have ever had! I want to take my wife there as they have two types of vegetarian burger options and sweet potato fries among other cool things. The best way I can say is take 5 Guys and mix it with a Steak and Shake with beer and wine as options in a very nice clean modern malt shop style.

We got there and the start was a bit delayed as the tables had to get setup and we had a bonus play show up unannounced that did not register. One guy later left thinking it was "elimination" so the other player that dropped earlier got to play two games still to enjoy his day at the store.

The missions was based on the Nova open format so each mission has a primary and there is a winner and looser, if there is a draw it goes to secondary, then to the third and worst case VPs at the end to break the tie.

This was by far a weird tournament, I have been to several with NO Tyranids and this time 3 players show with bugs! We had 3 Wolves, 2 Blood Angels, I think two Gay Knights (Er Gray Knights), one or two Chaos players also...the ringer was an Ork player....

My first draw was against Ty and his Blood Angels his list was 4 Las/Plas Razorbacks with 5 man squads inside, a Land Raider Crusader loaded with assault based terminators with a Chaplain, Sanguinary Priest and Librarian wearing Terminator armor also, he also had a pair of Baals (NO I DID NOT SAY BALLS!). We had spearhead for the first game and I won the roll to go first....the deployment was simple for me, I setup the Long Fangs in buildings and the Razorbacks behind buildings for cover. The scout squads and the pack leader ready to flank.

Meet Ty, Blood Angel Commander

Ty lines up his approach towards the Wolves.

The Wolves spring into action.

Scouts surround the survivors of a blown up Razorback.

Space Wolf Scouts take cover in the ruins after wiping out another Blood Angels squad.

The game was brutal as I was just tearing up Ty's list......sadly I assumed we would not roll that famous 1 or 2 and have an extra turn to reclaim one of my objectives and either contest or control one of his two by the end of 6th. Well, I ate my choice with humble pie and took a loss my first game. The sad thing is if I had played a bit more defensive I would have taken the game for a win on the secondary as I had the Victory Points to ensure the win. *sigh*

On with game 2, this time against another Blood Angel! My opponent's name was Adam and a great guy also to go up against, his list had some similar options of a Crusader, Mephsiton, Terminators, two Storm Ravens each with a Death Company Dread, one with Death Company and the other with normal troops. Again I won the roll and deployed first. My goal was to try to keep him at bay and with Pitched Deployment I should have good odds. The game was about table quarters....I just had to play this smart and I should be able to win.

Adam seized the game on me again and advanced towards my lines and opted to hold the Stormravens in reserve. This gave me a turn or two to breathe before things could get ugly. I opened up the first shot with a single melta shot from a Rhino, hits, 6 to the armor roll, fails the smoke and rolled a 6 to glance it knocking it to a 5 (-2 pen, +1 melta). Lucky stroke there for the game. At that point I kept putting pressure on but I made a few tactical mistakes in the game that really screwed me over. Namely not shooting or assaulting his Dreadnought and there was one other point I forgot to shoot with a unit. Towards the end of the game the scout unit with the Battle Leader and Wolf Guard came in late and opted to hide behind a large chunk of scenery and hide.

As we played it out with viscous fighting all around we tallied up the results.
Table Quarters= Draw (I had two and he had two)
Kill Points=Tie
Objectives= 1 each (Tie!)
VPs= WIN for me!

Adam, the other Blood Angel Cmdr

The lucky shot!

Melee battles all over the board!

So, on to the third round against Adam's friend, Adam (yes, so I played two Blood Angels and two people named Adam at this even, weird right?) with Space Wolves. He just had a rough game prior against my friend Chris with his Space Wolves so this was his double down against the same army.

We had kill points this game with Dawn of War. He had a heavy drop pod list with 7 pods I think with 2 dreads with multi meltas, several squads, two Rune Priests, a Wolf Priest and Arjak with Terminators.

Well, I won the dice, gave him first turn. I held everything into reserve and he slammed his pods down on my side. Game on! We just sat there beating the hell out of one another, the sad part was that my dice failed me towards the 2nd round and I was slowly being taken apart. In the end Adam had won it with luck and I think if I perhaps castled more to one side or the other and used the Rhinos to slow him down I may could have won the game. Instead I took a direct head on approach typical of the Space Wolf sagas and went for the gusto! Well, it failed.

Adam, the other Wolf

The Pods slam down....

My forces deploy....

Terminator Crunch time!

The Dread that would not die!

The points was tallied up and Chris won 1st place and I won best painted (since Chris already had the top prize!) so I got the bride's maid award. I was happy with that, I rarely get the best painted as my painting is table worthy but never up to snuff of better painters out there. I had the prize award put on my card and saved up for July for the 6th Edition roll out, hey bonus there! Free rules next month or very low cost impact to the wallet. I did buy the Ork flyer to add to the horde of Orks!

Overall it was a great outing, good food, 3 great games against 3 good opponents. My only gripe is the lack of sleep the past week due to one of my dogs going insane due to old age....we just got him on meds and I hope it works so we can keep him in the family a bit longer. I just hate the zombie feeling when I game and I feel that I would have done a bit better with some rest on my side. Oh well...such as life is....

Anthem Games Battle Reports: 4-12

Took my Space Wolves out for some paper training at Anthem Games over Easter Weekend to get some practice games in before the big tournament in May.

We had 10 armies in total:
2 Space Wolves
2 Chaos Marines
2 Tyranids
2 Imperial Guard
1 Grey Knights
1 Unkown (I forgot and didn’t see what he was playing and he left after the first game)
Dark Eldar (ringer to fill in for the missing player after the first round)

My first draw was against an IG player by the name of David, he had the vehicle heavy IG list that looked something like this: Squadron of Leman Russ tanks, another Leman Russ and Exterminator all with sponsons and I think lascannons. Topped with a Command Squad with 2 bodyguards and medics with melta guns in a Chimera and a Commissar Lord with a Vet squad and a couple of other Vet squads with plasma guns with a Penal Unit in tow with a Rough Rider unit.

David, IG General

The games we played was the Nova open missions, so all games had the same elements: objectives, kill points, table quarters and victory points just the order and deployment zones changed.

The first game was Dawn of War with Kill Points, Table Quarters and VPs in that order. I won the dice and setup first with a Wolf Lord in the middle with a Grey Hunter squad in a rhino. He placed out a Chimera with Vets and Commisar Lord. David failed to seize and the game was on.

My first turn was quick, unable to spot with the vehicles and enhanced senses (due to range), most other stuff moved on and ran (namely the Long Fangs). David moved his stuff on and tried to shoot a few times, with no real impact yet due to night fighting still.

Then the game was on in turn 2. My scouts appeared and blew up one of the two squadron tanks and removed the turrent from the other. Some shooting stunned a few tanks forcing him disembark and one Chimera to become immobile. Once he was out the Lord and company went to work taking apart the Lord Commisar and Veterans, they walked down the board along with the scouts slipping down through the wreckage after they blew up the last tank on turn 3 from the squadron only to finish off a disabled Chimera towards the end of the game. The rest of the army got flanked by one of the Rune Priests and the Wolf Guard Battle Leader following behind the Lord. David had a very defensive game on his hands the entire game.

When the dust settled he had a Penal Squad, one Vet squad, a Chimera and the Exterminator tank left on the table. I had the VPs, objectives and table quarters hands down taking a clean sweep to the second round.

First Turn

Scouts suprise the Leman Russ Squadron

There was a Chimera there and a Command Squad...at least before they ran away!

Scouts kill the second tank!

The Lord and Grey Hunters take on the Exterminator Tank.
Scouts finish off a Chimera.

Epic fight at the end. IG beat the two Space Wolves in hand to hand.

My second round opponent was another regular at Anthem, forgot his name right now. Old age sucks you now! Adam I think is his name. He brought a Chaos army that was interesting and well played against my list.

Just oozes chaos eh?

He had: Land Raider, 2 Lords with Terminator armor with Lash, 1 Unit of Nurgle Marked Marines with rhino, heavy bolter and melta I think, a large block of Khorne Bezerkers (in the Raider), another Rhino with Thousand Sons, a Chosen Squad with lighting claws and a Raptor squad with some assorted weapons. He also had a trio of Chaos Termiantors with a reaper autocannon and some other assorted weapons.

I won the setup again, took my table side and this time we had Pitched Battle, he failed to seize and it was game on. The  Wolves pushed forward and the shooting worked out well for me disabling one Rhino with the Thousand Sons and blowing up the Nurgle Rhino. Then we played cat and mouse as my Rhinos got stunned or disabled forcing me to dismount and take cover to continue using my Rune Priests powers or advancing with the Lord and Pack Leader’s groups.

The game came to a peak about midway when I took out his Terminators only to have the Bezerkers swarm out of the Land Raider and chew up the Grey Hunters with the Lord. The Lord finished off the Zerkers and walked over to finish off one of the two Lash Lords. The other Lash Lord towards the end died to a missile shot and a 1 on the armor save. The Scouts died after the 1000 Sons was assaulted (after all it was the honor of Fenris at stake) and the Wolf Guard survivor turned around and finished off the Thousand Sons sorcerer and died to the Chosen when they assaulted. There was no Lashed units this game thanks to runic weapons!

The game ended up with me trying to beat down a Land Raider that my melta would not roll high enough to destroy. It was immobile and two out of 4 weapons was blown off! *sigh*

Chaos deploys!

Epic battle with the 1000 Sons and Scouts. The Chosen turn the tide of the battle and win it for Chaos.

The Lord and Chaos Sorcerer face off!
Where the hell did that base come from?

Again another clean sweep for Chaos and it was to the final round to face what? IG again! *sigh* This one was ugly…

Chris had his shooter/armored arcade of mechanized troops and tanks in this list. Something similar to what I would field.

Chris, master of the mecha...

Chris had 2 Executioner tanks with plasma and lascannons, 1 Punisher with lascannon and Pask, several Vet units with Chimeras and a single lascannon in the unit, 2 Plasma Armored Sentinels, 3 Normal Sentinels, Vendetta with a Vet squad with 3 melta guns. A command squad was somewhere with another lascannon.

He won the roll, picked his quarter, I deployed in the other as best I could. I held the Lord, Scouts and Pack Leader units behind just hoping the Long Fangs and Rune Priests would survive.

Chris had put the Vendetta in reserve with the trio of sentinels with multilasers.
The game went as expected, I failed to seize and I was cut down with a series of massed shooting. At the end of turn 3 I had only the one Pack leader left out of 3 Long Fang Squads. I was able to blow his Vendetta out of the sky on turn 2 and my scouts and Lord Unit wrecked one Chimera, Vet Squad and Executioner tank before they was torn apart by a rain of fire and turned to puppy chow. Only the Lord lived with 2 wounds left.

All said and done, Chris had the game any way we played it, I could have pushed for another turn we could have completed I feel, but all I would have been able to do is remove one squad from an objective making a tie for the primary, we would have went to secondary which was victory points that he would have won anyway. A graceful player knows how to take a loss. It sucked when my dice turned south in the game and his was on fire. That’s the way it goes though….

The amusing part of this game was the Sentinel Battle…two Walkers was blown apart by shooting and then I charged thinking a STR 5 Frost Weapon would finish the last one off…NOT! For 3 turns we wailed on one another, I was unable to kill the damm thing! And the last Long Fang Leader was fighting an Armored Sentinel with no main gun (blown off earlier) to no avail. It was just sad, he threw a krak, no 6, sentinel swings misses or would fail to wound usuall or the 3+ save would kick in….comedy at the finest.

IG Advance
Scouts make a kill or two....

Toys for Tots: Season's Beatings! A 40k Kill Team Event

I just published on the bulletin board one of our LGS, Anthem Games, is hosting a Toys for Tots event. The goal here is to gather up some toys for the kids which are the real winners here and have a blast while doing it.

http://forums.anthem-games.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=4028

With pizza, prizes and drawings as well as 5 unique Kill Team missions should offer for a crazy and fun afternoon at Anthem Games in Tampa!

Image was found on DakkaDakka. I love it!

My only singular disappointment with this event is the lack of prize support from "other" related vendors to the hobby and GW themselves. James the owner of the store has gone to bat with prize support for the event and we are using part of the entrance fee to supply pizza for the event. I had hoped that other groups like Wolf Lair (Army Builder Maker), Army Transport, etc... would have jumped at the chance to send something to the event to promo their product as it relates to our hobby and is good for their business as well as it does not directly affect Anthem Games, if anything it may encourage James to carry something if he can see an interest and profit for his store.

If you live near the area, drop on by! Please support your local Toys for Tots drive near you! Make some children smile on Christmas Day!

TOYS THE TOY GOD!

1850 Battle Report Orks Vs Grey Knights (Blue vs Grey)

Played at the LGS in Tampa last night against a Grey Knights player by the same name of Patrick (same name as me) in what I consider a close and interesting game. I considered several armies to bring and settled on Orks as I have not used them much except during the Apocalypse game a few weeks ago. Even so, not much of the Ork codex came into play as most things such as units and vehicles die so easy in that game that I could not call it an official game using all the rules as such.

He had the special HQ that had the Ghost Knights in tow (about 5 I think), Crowe, 2 Units of Purifiers with psycannons (full) in Rhinos, 1 Unit of Interceptor (teleporter squad with psycannons), 1 Dreadnought with a pair of TL Autocannons, Vindicare Assassin.

I had Warboss on Bike with Klaw and Cybork, Mek with Cybork, Klaw and KFF, 30 Boyz with 3 Rockets and shootas, 2 Trukk Squads with Nob with Klaw/Bosspole, Trukks has Red and Ram, Battlewagon with single big shoota, red and Ram. 15 Burnas with 3 Rocket Launchers on Meks, 12 Lootas, Snikrot with full unit of Kommandos with 2 burnas and 20 Ard boyz with Nob with Klaw and Bosspole.

We rolled for the Mission and got Kill Points and Spearhead deployment. He won the dice off and picked his side. Deploying the Interceptors central, the Dread just behind, Crowe off to one side behind a Rhino full of Purifiers, the other Purifiers off to the other. The Terminators in reserve and the Assassin would infiltrate.

My deployment was basic, Lootas into a high building, one squad of boyz near a rock formation for cover, the rest in reserve. Burnas jumped in the Battlewagon with the Big Mek. The Warboss on bike ambushed with Snikrot (see latest Ork FAQ, yea dumb but figured what the hell).

Turn 1:
Failed to seize and he moved a little. I lost several orks from the Boyz squad to storm bolter fire and the Vindicare sniped the Nob with a 2 wound round. Lost a few Lootas. He also landed his Terminators near the Lootas. They had one turn to live.

My first turn was quick, I moved the Boyz into cover, fired a few shots killing a few Interceptor Grey Knights, the Lootas followed suit and wounded a few more despite only getting 1 shot each.

Turn 2:
His next turn took the terminators into the Lootas wiping the squad out. The rest of the army shot at Ork Boyz in cover.  The Vindicare tried to snipe one of the Rocket Launchers but the cover save was passed and the boyz managed to hold out despite terrible losses. Cover saved them from this round of brutal shooting.

Next round  I got the Battlewagon, Kommandos, Ard Boyz, and 1 Trukk.  One was stuck in reserve! At first I was going to send the Wagon into the Terminators and try to use the burnas to either flamer them down or try to break their armor and wound them as power weapons. Based on the halberds in that squad it would have ended badly for me. I ended up deploying the wagon to the far left side outside of the quarter I deployed in earlier as I could use the long edge. The Trukk rolled in beside it with the Ard Boyz behind for cover. The Trukk boyz deployed out towards the Rhino. Snikrot and Warboss moved in from the back side behind the Interceptors. I called the Waaaggghh and charged forward. I was in range to do a few assaults. The bonus move for the Trukk boyz got me close to the Rhino. Then I opened up some shooting. Some rockets and shootas caused a shaken result and a storm bolter to be removed. Assault phase kicked in. The Kommandos hit the Interceptors. The boyz failed their terrain test and failed to surround the rhino, which was my hope, pop it and trap them inside. The Boyz beat up the rhino and forced the Purifiers out (didn’t get to use the Klaw). The Kommandos took a few losses, then ate the Interceptor Squad, we slipped back into cover and waited.

Turn 3:
His turn took an interesting swing. Crowe moved to assault the Kommandos and Warboss. The Sniper and Dreadnought fired into the Trukk and Wagon. The Trukk failed the KFF roll and exploded on the spot after rolling on the mishap chart. Lost 2 Ard Boyz I think. Lost a few more boyz to fire from the Terminators, again cover helped. The Purifiers shot up the boyz that wrecked their ride and assaulted them.  He also got an assault with the hammer on the Trukk. Crowe killed the Warboss with his psychic “if I die, you die” power. Ugh! The other Purifier squad got out of the Rhino and tried to kill a few Kommandos and get an assault if possible. They failed their roll.

I pushed the Kommandos into cover, fired both burnas, wounded the Vindicare and killed a few Grey Knights. Once the assault was over, the Vindicare was dead but so was the rest of the Kommandos after an ugly bout with the Grey Knights. After we discussed moving the wagon, I opted not to move it and moved the Ard boyz around it to setup to clean house. I opened up on the Purifiers on my side, multiple burnas and rockets wiped them from the table in short order.

Turn 4:
He moved his terminators closer the boyz squad once 30 strong was a handful of survivors took a few more losses. The Purifiers started to run to the other side of the board, he moved his rhino to safety to avoid my lucky rocket launchers blowing it to hell and back. The Dread opened fire on the Battle Wagon again, again saved by the KFF.

My turn was again a quick one. A few shots into the Purifiers closing, he lost a few to a lucky rocket shots. The Wagon raced forward, out came the Mek and Burnas, 3 rockets streaked towards the Dreadnought and blew it to hell and back. I had expected the Klaw to be the one to finish it off. A nice surprise if you ask me. The other Trukk arrived, I started to move through a building rolling a nice “1” on the dice. Well, I had ram at least, then promptly rolled another “1”. The Trukk fired off a bunch of accurate shots and killed a few Purifiers that turn.

Turn 5:
He advanced up again, the boyz was down to less than a half dozen now.  To my surprise they held out well without a Nob leaving two rockets left when it was all said and done..

The Burnas and Mek loaded up the Battlewagon and drove around the wrecked Rhino ready to pounce. Next turn he would be in assault range. Again, a few big shoots, pistol shots (Ard Boyz) and rockets thinned down his Purifiers to only 2 in the squad. Roll to continue happens.

Turn 6:
Terminators and the two Purifiers make a multi charge on the Ard Boyz and the two surviving rocket launchers in the Boyz squad. The Purifiers BBQ a few Ard Boyz and one rocket go down. The power weapons sliced of the rest like butter on a hot knife.

I roll up the Battle Wagon, 12 flamers and 3 rockets fly towards the Terminators. The Trukk Boyz gets out and prepares to assault the Purifiers. Oddly, again they both died due to the big shoota and some pistols! So, they are standing around with the mushroom in their hand waiting to be assaulted. Just a rhino, HQ choice left! The flamer wounds his HQ and a ghost knight appears to replace the one I burned down. *sigh*

We roll, we continue to 7!

Turn 7:
This was a fast turn, he wiped out the last Trukk Boyz squad and the disabled Trukk. The Wagon rolls up again, flamers away! I killed another terminator and wounded the HQ again, again he restores one! ARG! After something like 50+ flamer hits I killed 2 Terminators and wounded his HQ twice!

Kill Points Tally:

Orks Dead: Warboss (on bike), Boyz Squad, Ard Boyz, 2 Trukk Boyz squads (and transports), Snikrot/Kommandos and Lootas. Giving him 9 totals. I only had a Battle Wagon, Mek and Burnas surviving. (Don’t recall 100% if the last truck was gone or not, but I am counting it anyway).

Grey Knights Dead: Dreadnought, Vindicare, 2 Purifier Squads, 1 Rhino, Crowe and Interceptor Squad. Giving me a total of 7. He had was survived with his HQ with Ghost Knights and a Rhino.

A bloody game indeed! If the game ended on 5 I would have won. Maybe even on 6 I could have pulled a win or a draw. After 7, I would have had to wipe both the HQ and Rhino to draw. If I was more thoughtful I should have fallen back more and kept away from him instead of trying to fight it out like an Ork. Alas, that was not part of my Kunnin’Plan.

Unit Reviews:
Snikrot and Kommandos: Did well, they finished off the Interceptors, Vindicare and killed a few Purifiers as well as wounded Crowe before they died. A good showing.

Burnas: Earned their paycheck taking down one Purifier squad, 2 terminators and threw a few wounds on the HQ to boot.

Trukk Boyz: Didn’t earn their keep. The one squad downed one Rhino, the other finished off two Grey Knights then died. A few big shoota shots claimed a few more GK but not sure if enough to call it a success.

Boyz Squad (30): They got the Mork Award of bravery and shooting deftness. Serious, they held out against the odds and died to man, took down a few Grey Knights, maybe not their point value but drew enough fire to allow others to do stuff.

Warboss (on bike): Meh, he killed Crowe and died to a craptastic power.  Didn’t get to do much this game.

Mek (KFF): That KFF saved all but 1 shot against the Trukk. This was a major ace for the game for me. If that Wagon went down, it could have went REALLY bad for me.

Battle Wagon: Did well enough, got the unit from point A to B and survived well enough.

Lootas: VERY disappointing performance. Their one shot of glory was a 1! Then died to the Terminators of DOOM!

Ard Boyz: They were pretty much wearing toilet paper against an army with power weapons. Even the 4+ I needed a few times against explosions and storm bolters didn’t cut it.

In retrospect I should have went with more large blocks of Boyz Squads. Ditched the Trukks and Ard Boyz for them.

Ork Deployment. First turn for Grey Knights

Terminators land near the Lootas.

Ork Boyz after first turn of being shot up!

Interceptors after several lost brothers from deadly Ork shooting!

Grey Knights Clean House!

Knock! Knock!

The Ork line from turn 2!

Komandos bash the Grey Knights!

Da Orks cheer as the Umies in silver are vanquished!

Did anyone bring the hot dogs?

Grey Knighs race to the battle.

Hey! Where did they go? I can't see past all the flames and smoke from the burna boyz!

Mek and Burnas take out the Dreadnough with lucky rocket shots!

Last stand for the Ard Boyz and the two survivors of the unstoppable Ork Boyz!

1850 Tournament at Anthem

On April 2nd, I went to a local tournament at Anthems Games. To me, one of the best local stores in Tampa. By far, the best gaming crowd in the area. Forgot the camera so no pics this time!

I brought an IG list consisting of:
  • Company Cmnd with 4 Melta Guns, Iron Hand Straken, Astropath, 2 Bodyguards and Chimera
  • Marbro
  • Vet squad with 3 melta guns and chimera
  • Vet Squad with 3 melta guns and chimera
  • Vets with 3 melta guns and chimera (with shotguns)
  • Vet Squad with 3 plasma guns and chmera
  • Penal  Legion Squad
  • Vendetta Gunship
  • Hellhound (Banewolf)
  • Leman Russ with Lascannon
  • Leman Russ with Lascannon and heavy bolter sponsons
  • Manticore
First round put me up against another IG player by the name of Chris.

He brought a great looking IG army in a dirty yellow (like Chem Wastes) Cmnd Squad with Master of Fleet (cancels my Astropath), Sentinel squad of 3, 2 armored Sentinels with plasma cannons, several vet squads in Chimeras, 2 Executioner Leman Russ Tanks with plasma sponsons, Vendetta Gunship and Marbro.

The first game was Dawn of War with a rain rule in effect. 1-2 Use night fight and everything moves as diff. terrain. 3-4 Moderate Rain double night fight distance and foot units treat everything as difficult terrain. 5-6 was a drizzle with no effect.

There was 5 objectives. Looking at the table, I thought about going on the offensive and was going to give him first turn. After some thought and talking back and forth holding the majority of the objectives was the best idea. Chris is a great guy, execllent player and a great sport.

Primary was to take objectives. Secondary was to have surviving kill poitns (have more) and last was Victory Points.

What can I say about this game, it was a smack him, he smacks me game. There was some amusing points on both sides like both our Marbros getting pasted after they appeared and did their demo charge of glory. The highlight was the "blarney stone" as we called it that one Chimera sat behind, I rarely failed a 4+ to save that Transport. It was amusing....

A good flank by the Penal troops took one objective and I held on to at least 2 by the end of the game. Taking the primary. He won secondary wiping more of my stuff off and thus leaving me less on the table and him killing more units gave VPs. Persoanlly, the last two was paired that it was hard to not make both for a player.

The only downpoint of the game was some issues with true line of sight rules, but as good players we did overcome them. We 4+ a few things and I did let him shoot with a unit of Sentinels he forgot. If Chris was some hardcore douche I would not allowed it, but as this was us having fun it was good by me.

Round 2 put me up against Steve and the green horde of Orks! Steve is one of those great players in the area. Laid back, always up for a laugh with his orks.

His list. Lots of orks! He had several trucks with boyz mixed with assult weapons and pistols and shootas. A large bike squad with a paindoc built in a comlex (no two models alike) with the Warboss, a few foot slogging squads, a large burna squad in a battle wagon and a unit of storm boyz.GAH!

The mission was 3 objectives along a diagonal center line, which was our deployment zone 12" from the center. I took first, castled in a corner for the most part, he lined up ready to rumble.

The rules was a bit weird for this game, Primary was Kill Points HQ and Troops worth 2. Secondary was most objectives. A unit fully within 6" could only be seen by a unit within 12" and had a 4+ cover save. Great for assult armies! Tertiary was nominate one unit to be your kill choice.

We both picked a transport. Easy and simple.

This was a back and forth game, early first two turns was shooting heavy taking down the Orks. The Manticore taking down some orks with instant kills if they failed their cover was nice. The Bane wolf also inflicted a few and the vets finishedd of much with close range shooting. Few orks saw the light of day in hand to hand but he was able to  hold onto one objective while I had the other and the other was just shy of being taken.

I took primary with kill points, secondary was taken by him. Then we both took our kill.

Game 3 took me against Adam's Space Wolves. Great player and a fantastic army! Always a pleasure to play Adam.

We deployed 3 objectives, you had to assign 2, 1 and -1 to each objective with paper under it. Each player could only claim the others objective. This was spearhead deployment. Primary was objectives. Secondary was Table Quarters, Tertiary was kill points.

He had: Thunder Wolf Calv with mixed goodies and Lord on a wolf also with some wolf models along as wound soakers. 2 Long Fang Squads, 2 Rhino based squads with one with a Rune Priest, had pretty much a full kit in both squads. Dreadnought with multi melta and flamer in a drop pod. Not sure if I am missing something.

This was again one of those slap one another back and forth. He won the roll, deployed first. Then I held all in reserve. His Dreadnought in pod lands near mid center, the Thunder wolves blaze forward. I lay into him with few losses. Then he plows into my lines and destroys one Chimera and stuns another. I then move on enough to plaster his Thunder Pups. The game keeps going back and forth with no one getting a solid upper hand.

Primary a draw (we both had the same # of objectives), Secondary was a tie (we both had two) and the last was kill points. I took that which was a suprise.

Again my appologies about not having the camera with me to take pics. The write up is shallow this time also due to it being about a week now and I just don't recall some things and just not in the best mindset. Had my head up my arse this past two weeks due to work woes with the gov wacking people's jobs. Just makes me sick to watch good people get screwed over while fat cats sit in "appointed" positions untouched by these cuts. Sad to see the workers go and the idiots stay. That's goverment it seems.
